About Me

Maybe it's obvious, but I'm not a professional photographer, just someone who enjoys getting out and about taking photos around the world. I have a thing for colours, textures, contrasts and movements in nature, and although probably frowned upon by many photographers I love sunsets and sunrises. I learnt to dive many years ago and took up underwater photography in 2004 inspired by a group of friends who were taking stunning shots in UK waters. I currently work as a marine ecologist mostly in the tropics so most of my recent (and best) photographs are from tropical locations, many on coral reefs. I now try to focus my photography on some of the many issues facing the marine environment, predominantly coral reefs which are my main passion. Many of these images can be found on this website along with a growing number of articles on a wide variety of conservation related subjects. Most recently I have been working as a Fisheries Observer in the Indian Ocean so I will shortly be posting some images and articles about this - if I get time to write them.

In case anyone is interested I've been using a Nikon D70 for years and it's served me well, but is starting to show its age. I'm hoping to save enough cash to be able to afford a D700 or D3 in the next few months. For underwater I currently have a well-used Ikelite which is a bit battered along with Inon Z220 strobe. Favourite lenses for underwater include a trusty 60mm macro, 15mm fish-eye, and for out of water I mostly use the bog-standard 18-70mm and a cheap 300mm. Unfortunately, because I often work in very humid areas, most of my lenses have developed mould so it's looking like I'm due for a large outlay of cash in the not so distant future.

I hope people enjoy looking at this site. It's very much a work in progress so may seem a little unfinished, but I wanted to get something online as I've been meaning to for so long. Id' very much appreciate any feedback about anything at all - look forward to hearing from you.
